We spent four lovely September days at the William Heise County Camping Park near the historic town of Julian, California. Set in the Cuyamaca Mountains, the campground offers partial hookups (electric only) with available water, hot showers and a dump station. Each site contains a table and fire ring and circles a large common area with several picnic tables, large grill and fire ring for our group to use. Pets are allowed in the campground on a leash.
We checked in Thursday, September 13, and, after settling in, enjoyed a potluck dinner with grilled hamburgers, hotdogs and buns provided. We got to know each other around the campfire that night and reviewed the rally information.
After a continental breakfast Friday morning we boarded our charter bus for a tour of the Julian/Santa Ysabel area including the Santa Ysabel Mission, Santa Ysabel Casino for lunch and $10 of free play, Wynola Farms for wine and hard cider tasting (plus free bottle of cider and wine glass) and time to explore the town of Julian. We then enjoyed a catered Mexican dinner and "Raptor Show" back at the campground.
On Saturday (after breakfast), we attended the 42nd Julian Music Festival--one of the most popular Bluegrass Festivals in the U.S. Sitting on lawn chairs in the shade we enjoyed listening to four bluegrass bands before meeting for dinner at the Rongbranch Restaurant for a barbeque chicken dinner followed by a raffle.
After Sunday morning breakfast many folks took advantage of our free day to revisit Julian, the casino, Wynola Farms for music and food, or to take advantage of the numerous hiking trails in the area. Another catered dinner and wonderful entertainment provided by Rich Goben and his band, Just Friends, around the campfire ended the day.
Monday morning we met for our last continental breakfast before saying our farewells.
